CLIC

Center for Languages & Intercultural Communication(CLIC)

http://clic.rice.edu/
The Center for Languages & Intercultural Communication has two curricular goals:
1.The development of the instrumental ability to function effectively in a second language social situation, and
2.The development of analytical ability to understand how formal and functional aspects of language help us develop conceptual models of cultural institutions, social groups, culture, and communication in general.

Vision
The overall vision of the CLIC is to make a better world through the creation, implementation and promotion of an academically substantive second language program that guides the development of:
a. Communicative and interactional abilities in a second language through language analysis and language use,
b. Analytical, critical-thinking competence developed through the study of linguistic, social and cultural aspects that define second language communicative-interactional abilities,
c. A broad educational experience (intercultural awareness and abilities) that will help students become productive members of a society in which multilingualism and multiculturalism are the norm rather than the exception.
