Welcome to the ‘Hindi Language studies’ page, a part of the Center for languages & Intercultural Communication (CLIC) at Rice University,  Houston, TX.

With the growing number of Indian immigrants to USA and other countries of the world,
‘ Hindi’ the national language of “India, that is also known as Bharat’,  and rich socio-cultural traditions of this land, have also crossed the geographical boundaries and extended globally.

Hindi is an Indo-Aryan language with more above 487 million speakers, spread all over the world. With its root lying deep into Sanskrit, the most highly advanced and sophisticated classical language of the world, Hindi is written in Devnagari script that has as many as 13 vowels and 36 consonants. It is phonetic language, which is written exactly as it is spoken. It has been influenced and enriched by Dravidian, Turkish, Farsi, Arabic, Portuguese and English. Hindi is a very expressive language. In poetry and songs, it can convey emotions using simple and gentle words.
